How Copiers Affect your Health
You may not be aware, but many of the machine we use every day affect our health in some way. These are usually very minor affects that most will not notice, but for some, it can affect the way they feel every day. Copiers are on such example of these machines. For most people it is a nonissue, but it’s still good to know how copier s affect your health.
We will reiterate that most people will not be affected by anything produced by your copier. Only those who are extremely sensitive will notice anything. However, it’s still important to know how to protect those in your office.
Copiers produce Volatile Organic Compounds. The most common of these VOCs is Ozone. Ozone is great for the environment, but can be harmful to breathe. If you have a history of lung or respiratory issues then you may notice the effects of ozone in your environment.
Inhaling ozone can:
- Cause inflammation of the lungs of respiratory system
- Cause decreased lung capacity
- Make it hurt to breathe
- Cause discomfort for those with asthma
It’s easy to do your part to make sure those in your office are breathing right. Move your copier away from desks and put it in a well ventilated area. You should also make sure that you are changing your filters regularly.
Ozone will not affect most of those in your office. However, making a few small changes can have a big impact on a few, who will thank you for the effort.
